Cogmap© Diagnostics

We provide the roadmap for exploring your territory.

Cogmap© is a purpose designed tool that seeks to relate the various systemic drivers of enterprise performance into a framework that enables you to develop a strategic view of your business.

It comprises four interrelated domains that come together to create a powerful and dynamic picture of your business and its context.

Cogmap© as a strategic thinking framework is shown below.

The four distant external generators of change and complexity are technology, markets, society, and personal behaviour (identity). They are distant generators because they represent the emergent global context.

The three near external generators of change and complexity are stakeholders demands, mental models and knowledge generation. They are near generators because they represent present local context.

The four business drivers of change and complexity are enterprise intent, personal meaning, enterprise learning and enterprise results. They are business drivers because they represent the awareness-attention-action dimension the business context.

The three business stabilisers of change and complexity are enterprise culture, leadership (and role) behaviour and enterprise design. They are stabilisers because they represent the past experience of the business and its leadership and seek to maintain stability.

The nine management action pathways are stakeholder relationship management, product/service delivery management, enterprise capability management, enterprise change management, enterprise knowledge sharing, enterprise innovation management, personal awareness management, personal capability development, and personal influence management. They are action pathways because they represent the focus of business improvement, growth and sustainability.

Cogmap© is supported by a comprehensive and customisable diagnostic set of questions for each of the generators, drivers and stabilisers that explores the why, the what , the who and the how of them in card-based format.

Cogmap© is available as a consulting service or can be provided under license and implemented by accredited internal or external consultants.

The benefit of our approach is its ability to help managers see the whole territory while working on a part of it Ð it allows managers to take a systemic view of the business and still intervene systematically. The awareness it generates of the relationships between the various aspects of the business environment (both external and internal) enables managers to see the potential consequences of their decision-making choices in a more holistic way.
